What are the disadvantages of CNC machining?

2025.03.06
Everyone knows that CNC machining has many advantages, but at the same time, there are also some potential disadvantages. Today, I have compiled the following shortcomings related to CNC machining:
1.Initial cost investment
The cost of purchasing and maintaining CNC machine tools can be high. This includes the cost of the machine itself, as well as the cost of tools, software, and training. Smaller businesses or those with limited budgets may find it difficult to come up with initial expenses.
2.Complexity and difficulty of learning
Operating and programming CNC machine tools requires employees to have certain technical and professional knowledge. Learning related software and machine operations requires a certain amount of time and effort, which can pose challenges for some people. And the more complex the parts, the more advanced skills are required.
3.Maintenance and downtime costs
CNC machine tools require regular maintenance to ensure optimal performance and lifespan. This includes regular maintenance, replacement of worn parts, and timely resolution of any potential issues. Maintenance downtime can affect production progress and increase costs.
4.Limited flexibility
Although CNC machine tools can handle a variety of parts, there may be limitations in rapid prototyping or frequent design changes. Adjusting the manufacturing process for each new design may be time-consuming and may not be as flexible as some other manufacturing methods.
In the next article, the editor will continue to share with you the disadvantages faced by CNC machining.
